the screen is blank. for the longest time it was only avaible to Mavericks users. I am still using Mnt Lion. I have no desire to upgrade none of my programs will work if I do. one program stopped working when I upgraded to Mnt Lion. fix the app for a mnt lion user.
never gets past ‘searching’ for bridge
The idea here is great and hopefully will be once the dev team gets all the kinks worked out. We have 26 lights in our office and when strobing, it typically will cut out after a few seconds and only work on 2 lights. Also, the UI is vague at best. Buttons do not highlight to show they are the current choice, leaving me clicking repeatedly to ensure that I actually chose that function. The UI also does not have clear properties labeling your current selection on the finer tuning of each function. It would be nice if the labels were clear and actually working. Another missing feature is the ability to reorder or group lights together, and possibly rename lights. This app needs major work before it can be considered a reasonable solution. I wish I had not yet paid for it before being able to actually try it out fully. I really hope the delevopers keep working on this…and fast!
The strobe only works for a limited time before all the lights stop responding. Could definely use a GUI update. I would like to see the app be able to tell the difference between a hard and fast song with quick rapid changes of the lights and a soft song with a less dramatic color shift, automatically.
Very glad I am able to write this updated review to replace my old 1-star criticism. The latest update on July 25, 2014 fixed the issues I had before with lights “timing out” when using more than 3 lights. I am now able to use 7 lights with only infrequent issues that should more likely be attributed to my obscure external audio interface than this app in particular. I don’t think others will experience the issues that I sometimes do with my setup, so I won’t go into detail on that (nothing that significantly diminishes the usability anyway). Also a good bit to appreciate in the way of subtle GUI updates. It’s clear that the developers do care about the quality of their output here and probably were trying to get the update into the App Store for a while before it surfaced here. The $3.99 I spent for unlimited lights is no longer a source of remorse in my life and I would actually recommend this app at this point to anyone who wants a good audio visualizer for Hue that runs on their Mac, also anyone who thinks Hue Disco is a little over-the-top. The visualization here seems more “thoughtful” in a sense — it’s hard to articulate, but you’ll see with the trial that it’s one of the better experiences. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably like it a lot. Give it a spin!
Recently updated to Yosemite and was so excited about using this app - even did the unlimited upgrade! But it’s not finding the light bulb - and support on the website is a joke at best.
Whereas other apps dumb down the choices—like buying paint at Home Depot—Hue Party instead gives the user fine control over the most subtle aspects of the lighting experience. Each developer has something specific in mind, and I honor that. But the raw control over both tempo and transition make Hue Party and Philips Hue Lighting in general more like Photoshop for my life than a visit to Spencer’s Gifts in the Northway Mall in 1974. Come to think of it, I kinda miss Spencer’s Gifts. Anyhow, this is a good app.
VERY GOOD APP FOR FREE. MAKE THE PAID VERSION AND EXPLODE WITH AMASING FEAUTURES. VERY GOOD LOOKING APP. HAVE ON MY IPAD AND IPHONE TOO. THANX.
I have been using this app on iOS for some time. It is, by far, my favorite 3rd-party Hue control app. The only downside to the iOS version though is that if your phone goes to sleep… the effects stop. I had no idea that the developer had built a Macintosh version as well. So when I saw this in the Mac App Store, I was über excited!! It works exactly as expected, UI matches the iOS version, uses just 0.4% of your processing power (virtually no battery drain even if not connected to AC) and is percisely what I needed. Only drawback is that you cannot put the icon in the Menu Bar and the app window cannot be closed, just minimized. This is not a big deal, just a UI improvement that I would love to see in a future update. I look forward to using this app daily. THANK YOU SPACENATION!! :D
Ever since I upgraded to this version in February 2015, the HUE app CRASHES. It crashes on my iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 6 Plus. The app won’t even launch. My Hue Lights no longer respond. I tried rebooting and reconnecting the bridge but it is the App itself that will not launch and winds up crashing.
…and you can’t pick which ones it sees.
Where the heck are the instructions?!?! I don’t know what Tap, Flow, or any of the other settings mean! How frustrating. I don’t know what tempo does either. Get some documentation out there pleeeease. Let us know how to use your app!!!!
This is my favorite Philips Hue app. I love the candle light mode. It’s a simple and flexible interface. The only problem is that a bug was introduced in 4.0 which is causing very high CPU usage. It’s so high that it consumed all available CPU resources and causes the CPU to run very hot and the fans have to turn on high. It is so intense that it is impossible to quit the application and it must be force quit. The developer seems responsive and issued a 4.0.1 update indicating that the problem was fixed but unfortunately it is not fixed. The developer will surely get this sorted out, but at this time I sadly can not use it.
The program keeps crashing everytime that I opened it; which pretty much makes it useless.
The app does what it says it does better than any of the apps I’ve tried in the past. Unfortunately the number of options is too many for the average user, which leads to the negative reviews, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5: it’s not simple enough for the average user. I’m writing this review because the app is very nice and when I recommended it to a friend she said the reviews were awful and she wouldn’t download it until I reassured her it was a good app.
