Very significant improvements! The developers care.
Very glad I am able to write this updated review to replace my old 1-star criticism.
The latest update on July 25, 2014 fixed the issues I had before with lights “timing out” when using more than 3 lights. I am now able to use 7 lights with only infrequent issues that should more likely be attributed to my obscure external audio interface than this app in particular. I don’t think others will experience the issues that I sometimes do with my setup, so I won’t go into detail on that (nothing that significantly diminishes the usability anyway).
Also a good bit to appreciate in the way of subtle GUI updates. It’s clear that the developers do care about the quality of their output here and probably were trying to get the update into the App Store for a while before it surfaced here. The $3.99 I spent for unlimited lights is no longer a source of remorse in my life and I would actually recommend this app at this point to anyone who wants a good audio visualizer for Hue that runs on their Mac, also anyone who thinks Hue Disco is a little over-the-top. The visualization here seems more “thoughtful” in a sense — it’s hard to articulate, but you’ll see with the trial that it’s one of the better experiences. If you’re anything like me, you’ll probably like it a lot. Give it a spin!
